Mission The mission of the Gesgapegiag Health and Community Services is to support the Gesgapegiag community in attaining well-being by offering general and specialized health, mental health, and social services of superior quality adapted to the needs of the different components of the population. ***Community Notice*** Please be advised that there will no longer be Medical Transportation Service on Friday afternoon affective on as of now. Social and Health Issues Some of the
health issues included diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure and high cholesterol, development issues related to drug and alcohol abuse during pregnancy, sedentary lifestyles, prescription drug abuse, elders’ issues, hypertension, cancer and STI’s. The most recurrent social issues included drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, gambling, lack of parenting skills, family violence, lack of family stability and structure, and family related issues such as child/youth neglect, vandalism, and drug use by youth at a young age. A few activities through the youth center and through recreation have been implemented to address sedentary lifestyles and some of the social issues regarding children and youth. Other health programs have monitoring systems for some of the health issues, but require more effective long-term planning to start to effectively address specific health issues.
